Thirteen-year-old Matt must remain alone in Indian territory while his father goes to pick up his mother and newborn sister. He forms a friendship with Attean, a young boy, and learns about new ways of life. Eventually, Matt comes to understand that the Native American lifestyle cannot peacefully coexist with the new settlers.
